Music Director
Dr. Kathleen Orr serves as Music Director. In addition to bringing a joyful noise to our church, she is currently employed as a Music Specialist with Prince Georges County Public Schools at Highland Park Elementary School and at the University of Maryland University College as an Assistant Professor of Composition. Previously, she worked at Tiffin University as the Chairperson of the Masters of Humanities and as an Assistant Professor in the School of Arts and Sciences, teaching classes in Composition and Rhetoric, English as a Second Language, and in the Freshman Seminar (FRE) classes. She graduated from Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, with a degree in Music Education (piano and voice emphasis) and taught in a variety of locations in Ohio and then in a number of diverse educational settings around the world. In addition to her Bachelor of Music Education from Heidelberg, she has a Master's of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from National University, with an emphasis in Instructional Leadership. Finally, she has a Ph.D. in Professional Studies in Education with a composition and rhetoric core through Capella University, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
As a Navy wife for 25 years, Dr. Orr traveled the United States and abroad with her husband, Jaimie and her children, Jessica, John and Robert. She had multiple careers including a Training and Curriculum Specialist for the United States Air Force, a Family Home Care Program Coordinator for the United States Navy, a District Care Coordinator for Ramona Unified School District, and a Site Manager/Gifted Education Consultant for "Early Discoveries". Finally, for the past 20 years she owned a martial arts school, where she ran a variety of curricula for adults and children and currently is the Instructor's Certification Training Coordinator. She previously served as Music Director at Tidewater UCC for fourteen years. Dr. Orr's passions include music, theatre, and traveling.
